Simply put, biblical counseling is counsel from the Bible, which we believe to be sufficient for everything that pertains to life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3-4). It is akin to discipleship or sanctification. Whereas preaching is the public ministry of the Word, counseling is the private ministry of the Word. We believe in speaking the truth and in love. It is not a new idea. You can find it as early as Acts 2. Paul preached it in Acts 20:17-35 and he encouraged Timothy to practice it in 2 Tim. 2:2. Though discipleship/counseling happens at an informal level throughout Prayer City, this type of counseling happens at a formal level within the Counseling Ministry.
